Small Employers May Be Making Uninformed Decisions on Health Care Reform
According to a recent survey of small employers, most don't realize that if they have under 50 full-time equivalents (FTEs), there is no penalty at all under the Employer Responsibility ("Pay or Play") provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
It should not be surprising that some smaller employers–from all sectors of the economy–don't know all of the complexities contained in the Act. What is surprising is that they would make business-critical decisions without getting all of the facts. One can only hope that those owners, executives, and managers would take the time and get the resources necessary to make an informed decision in an area that contains their competitive advantage: their people.
